The best way is to use one of the high-quality databases that we have on our Social Sciences list. For Sociology, the best bet is likely to be SocINDEX with Full Text. (Other useful databases for sociology are detailed here.) But not everything in SocINDEX--or any other database--would qualify as scholarly, or "peer-reviewed." And even in academic journals, not all the articles would be considered a research study.
So, it's important to be able to recognize a research study when you see one. We have a guide, with screenshots, that goes over the components of a research study. You can find it here.
